The Numbers Said I Was Winning...
I don’t follow my own numbers. Never have. Whatever tracking your own stats does for other people — that little hit every time the dashboard ticks up — I decided a long time ago it does the opposite for me. So when I sat down for my six-month review and the person across the table told me I’d finished second, second overall and top two in nearly every category they measure, I assumed, honestly, that they’d pulled the wrong file.
They hadn’t. And I’m going to tell you why that was almost beside the point, because it turned out to be the most useful thing I’ve learned in years, and it took a genuinely good six months to teach me.
Let me start where the program did.
